Journey to Abuja disrupted as Kaduna bound train derails

A routine rail trip from Kaduna State to Abuja turned chaotic on Monday after a passenger train derailed along the Abuja–Kaduna railway corridor, leaving several travellers injured according to reports and halting the service midway.

The train, which departed Kaduna heading for the Federal Capital Territory, was unable to complete its journey after the incident forced an unscheduled stop on the track.

Sources within the Nigerian Railway Corporation acknowledged the derailment but offered limited details, noting that officials authorised to speak on the situation had yet to issue a formal statement.

Passengers on board described a sudden moment of alarm when the train jolted violently before coming to a standstill. Some travellers said they heard a loud bang moments before the coaches shook, throwing passengers off their seats and creating confusion inside the compartments.

The disruption left many stranded on the rail line as railway officials worked to assess the situation. The number of injured passengers has not yet been officially confirmed, while authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the derailment.
