FCC Chairman commits to building an inclusive institution for all Nigerians
The Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Honourable Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, has reaffirmed her dedication to fostering an inclusive institution that serves all Nigerians, regardless of ethnic, religious, or social background.
Hon. Omidiran made the statement while receiving a delegation from the Social Development Action Trust (SDA-Trust), led by CEO Dr. Hussain Abdu, during a courtesy visit to the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja. The visit focused on exploring institutional collaboration and strengthening advocacy for inclusion, equity, and national development.
“I want a Federal Character Commission that works for everyone, regardless of your background, tribe, or religion. Nigerians should feel that this country works for all of us, and that is why we are here,” Hon. Omidiran said. “We just need to move forward with the understanding that the capacity and quality are here, and together we are going to get this done.”
Dr. Abdu praised the FCC Chairman’s appointment and leadership style, noting the Commission’s critical role in advancing fairness and inclusion in Nigeria.
“We are impressed with your appointment and leadership. We believe in building a strong partnership because the Federal Character Commission exists for a reason,” he said. “SDA Trust is committed to supporting institutions that promote inclusion and democracy, and the FCC is one of Nigeria’s key institutions in this regard.”
Dr. Abdu also revealed that SDA-Trust is developing a programme to deepen engagement with the FCC through research, institutional assessment, and strategic collaboration.
“The programme aims to understand the institution thoroughly because we cannot effectively engage without knowing its dimensions,” he explained.
Commissioner representing Gombe State, Hon. Ibrahim Abdu Mairiga, commended the leadership of Hon. Omidiran, highlighting the confidence and motivation it has inspired among Commissioners and staff.
“The kind of leadership the Chairperson is providing is inspiring and encouraging, which is very important for many of us here in the Commission,” Mairiga, who also chairs the FCC Inter-governmental and External Affairs Committee, stated.
This engagement reflects the increasing interest of civil society organizations in partnering with the Federal Character Commission to promote inclusive governance, institutional accountability, and democratic participation across Nigeria.
