Joy Omewa named Danish league player of the season and top scorer after dominant campaign

Nigerian forward Joy Omewa has been crowned Player of the Season in the Danish Women’s League for 2024/25, also finishing as the league’s Top Scorer, following a standout campaign with Fortuna Hjørring.

As part of her recognition, the 22-year-old was awarded a Mercedes Benz ride for one month.

Omewa played a key role in Fortuna Hjørring’s remarkable season, leading the club to a domestic double—winning both the Danish Championship and the Danish Cup. She registered an impressive 22 goals and 4 assists in just 23 matches, making her one of the most lethal attackers in the league.

Born on December 1, 2002, Omewa has been on the radar since her early days with Nigeria's U-17 and U-20 national teams. Her consistent form in Denmark has now elevated her status as one of Nigeria’s brightest footballing prospects in Europe.

While she primarily operates as a centre forward, Omewa’s versatility also allows her to function effectively as a second striker, combining intelligent movement, creative finishing, and explosive pace to torment defences.

Fortuna Hjørring head coach Lene Terp praised her star striker, stating:

"Joy is sharp and clever—her movement and decision-making set her apart. She’s a striker any team would be lucky to have."

With individual accolades and silverware in hand, Omewa’s performances have attracted the attention of top clubs across Europe, potentially paving the way for a big move in the near future.
