Justine Madugu bags traditional title after WAFCON triumph, historic Ballon d'Or nomination
Head Coach of Nigeria's senior women's national team, the Super Falcons, Justin Pwanidi Madugu, is set to be honoured with the traditional chieftaincy title of Nzovwapwatu Bachama Kingdom (The Competitor) by the Bachama Traditional Council in Numan, Adamawa State.
According to an invitation issued by the council, the formal investiture ceremony will hold on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the GSS Football Pitch, Numan Local Government Area, while a reception will follow at No. 1 Gamadio Street, Sabon-Pegi, Numan.
The recognition comes on the heels of Madugu's remarkable achievements in women's football, particularly his success with the Super Falcons.
Under his leadership, Nigeria reclaimed continental supremacy by winning a record-extending 10th Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title. His tactical brilliance and outstanding management of the team earned him the WAFCON Coach of the Tournament award, further cementing his status among Africa's elite football coaches.
Madugu's growing international reputation was further enhanced when he became the first African coach to receive a nomination for the Ballon d'Or Women's Team Coach of the Year award, a historic milestone that placed him among the world's leading managers in women's football.
The Adamawa-born tactician's latest honour reflects not only his contributions to Nigerian football but also the pride he has brought to his home state and the nation through his achievements on the global stage.
The traditional title will be formally conferred by His Royal Majesty, Homun (Dr.) Daniel Shaka Ismaila, CON, PhD, the paramount ruler of the Bachama Kingdom.
The ceremony is expected to attract prominent figures from the sports community, traditional institutions, government circles, and football enthusiasts from across the country, as the Bachama Kingdom celebrates one of its most distinguished sons.
