The Kogi State Government has officially dissolved all State Sports Association Boards following the expiration of their tenure. The development takes immediate effect.
In a letter issued by the Kogi State Sports Council and signed by Akowe Sule Adejoh, Director of Sports, the dissolution was confirmed based on approval by the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports.
The directive, conveyed through a letter referenced MYS/SP/46/VOL.1/138 and dated June 10, 2025, marks the end of service for all board members.
The Commissioner also extended appreciation to members who committed personal resources towards the development of their respective sports associations. He prayed for divine reward for their contributions and noted that individuals may reapply for positions when the new boards are reconstituted.
However, the development could serve as a major setback for individuals from the state who were relying on their board positions to qualify or strengthen their candidacy for zonal or national offices in various sports federations. With the dissolution, such individuals may now face eligibility challenges or weakened representation ahead of impending national elections.
The letter emphasizes the government’s openness to retaining competent members in the future, while reaffirming its commitment to the continued growth of sports in the state.
