Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Qualifiers: 10 rising stars seeking senior Nigeria debuts against Comoros

A new generation of Nigerian women footballers will have an opportunity to announce themselves on the senior international stage when the Super Falcons face Comoros in the second round of the 2028 Olympic qualifiers .

Interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen has handed opportunities to several emerging talents in his 28-player squad, with the likes of Oluwakemi Adegbuyi, Shakirat Moshood, Flourish Sabastine, Suliat Abideen, Fatimoh Solaty, Joy Igbokwe, Tumininu Adeshina, Glory Edet, Farida Abdulwahab and Christiana Uzoma all included.

For the youngsters, the invitation represents more than inclusion in a senior national team camp. It offers them the chance to compete for a place in the Super Falcons and potentially make their senior competitive debuts in an Olympic qualifying tie.

Adegbuyi: From WAFU-B MVP to Super Falcons

Oluwakemi Adegbuyi arrives at the camp after a remarkable period at youth and domestic level.

The FC Robo Queens forward was named MVP of the 2025/26 Nigeria Women’s Football League season and subsequently earned the same individual honour at the 2026 WAFU-B U-17 Girls’ Cup, where the Flamingos emerged champions.

Her invitation comes shortly after another impressive assignment in the regional women’s game, with Adegbuyi also helping FC Robo Queens compete in the 2026 WAFU-B Women’s Champions League qualifiers.

The Comoros tie could therefore provide the teenager with her first opportunity to test herself against established senior internationals.

Moshood: Former Flamingos Captain Steps Up

Shakirat Moshood is another player whose progression through Nigeria’s youth system has earned her a senior opportunity.

The SCU Torreense forward was the leading scorer at the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, where she finished with four goals.

She subsequently played an important role in the Falconets’ successful WAFU-B U-20 Girls’ Cup campaign and their qualification for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Now, the former Flamingos captain has been invited to the Super Falcons and will be looking to translate her impressive youth-level scoring record to the senior stage.

Sabastine Brings International Experience

Flourish Sabastine already has considerable experience within Nigeria’s national-team structure despite her young age.

The S.L. Benfica forward has represented Nigeria at youth and senior levels and was part of the Falconets squads at the 2022 and 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cups.

Her current involvement with Benfica has also exposed her to European club football, adding another dimension to her development as she competes for her place among Nigeria’s senior forwards.

Abideen Eyes Another Major Step

Suliat Abideen’s career has similarly been shaped by success in the domestic game.

The Fenerbahçe midfielder previously captained her club to the 2024 NWFL Premiership title, a campaign in which she was named MVP.

She later earned further individual recognition at the WAFU Zone B Women’s Champions League qualifiers, strengthening her credentials as one of the emerging midfield talents in Nigerian women’s football.

A Super Falcons debut against Comoros would represent the latest step in that progression.

Solaty, Igbokwe Offer Domestic Quality

Nasarawa Amazons midfielders Fatimoh Solaty and Joy Igbokwe also feature among the young players seeking to make their mark.

Solaty has established herself in the NWFL and previously captained Dannaz FC Ladies, while Igbokwe has experience as a former Falconets captain and was named her club’s Player of the Season after also earning a place in the NWFL Team of the Season.

Their invitations underline the coaching staff’s willingness to look beyond the established core of the Super Falcons while assessing options for the future.

Adeshina Returns to Senior Picture

Tumininu Fatimoh Adeshina is another familiar name from Nigeria’s youth international pathway.

The Edo Queens defender previously represented the Flamingos and Falconets before featuring for Nigeria at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Her tournament experience included the Falconets’ 3-0 victory over England in the Round of 16, giving her exposure to high-level international competition before the move into the senior setup.

Adeshina now has the opportunity to make the transition from Nigeria’s youth teams to the Super Falcons.

Edet Brings Champions League Pedigree

Glory Ubong Edet offers a different form of experience.

The Bayelsa Queens defender was part of the Nigerian club’s historic run at the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League in 2022, where the team won the bronze medal.

She also became the first Nigerian player to be selected in the tournament’s official Team of the Tournament, an achievement that remains an important part of her continental pedigree.

A senior international debut would add another milestone to her career.

Abdulwahab, Uzoma Complete Youth Contingent

Farida Abdulwahab is another product of Nigeria’s youth national-team system to receive the call.

The defender has represented Nigeria at U-17 and U-20 levels and was part of the Falconets setup that secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. She was among the players who could not travel to the tournament because of visa-related issues.

Edo Queens goalkeeper Christiana Ijeoma Uzoma completes the group of emerging players highlighted for the assignment.

Uzoma has represented Nigeria at youth and senior levels and has been included as one of the three goalkeepers in Eguavoen’s squad, alongside Chiamaka Nnadozie and Comfort Erhabor.

Ikenne Provides the Stage

The young players will have to compete for places in a squad that also contains established Super Falcons stars, including captain Rasheedat Ajibade, Asisat Oshoala, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Michelle Alozie, Toni Payne, Jennifer Echegini and Uchenna Kanu.

Both legs of the Comoros tie will be played at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo because Comoros does not have a CAF-approved venue for international matches.

The first leg is scheduled for October 9, with the return fixture on October 13. The players were instructed to report to camp in Ijebu-Ode on October 3.

For Nigeria’s emerging talents, the double-header provides an opportunity to move from promising youth internationals and domestic standouts into the senior conversation.

With the Super Falcons beginning their road towards the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, Eguavoen’s decision to blend established stars with emerging players could give several of Nigeria’s next generation their first taste of senior competitive football.
