NAFDAC Arrests Man for Producing Fake Alcohol in Rivers State
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has arrested Anthony Chidi at Mile 3 Market, Diobu, Port Harcourt, for producing counterfeit alcoholic beverages in unhygienic conditions.
In a statement on its official X account, NAFDAC revealed that Chidi was caught inside a filthy shop, washing and refilling used bottles of various alcoholic brands with substandard drinks for resale. Officials uncovered contaminated bottles, ethanol, bottle caps, and packaging materials during the raid.
Chidi confessed to running the illegal business for about a year, sourcing labels from Aba and buying used bottles to package the fake drinks. NAFDAC immediately shut down the shop and seized all materials for further investigation.
The agency has reiterated its commitment to cracking down on the production and sale of adulterated beverages, warning consumers to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
