NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, Executive Committee resign
Nigeria’s football administration has been thrown into fresh uncertainty after Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, members of the Executive Committee and General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi resigned from their positions.
The NFF confirmed the dramatic development on Thursday in a brief statement published on its official social media platforms.
“NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, alongside his Executive Committee and the General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, have resigned from their positions.”
The mass resignation is reportedly unprecedented in the history of Nigerian football, coming just one month before the scheduled NFF elective congress.
The development is expected to trigger major deliberations among football stakeholders, with the NFF Congress set to determine how the federation will be administered pending the election.
Congress will also consider the implications of the resignations and decide on an appropriate arrangement to ensure continuity and stability in the running of Nigerian football.
Gusau was elected NFF President in September 2022 at the federation’s elective congress in Benin City, Edo State. His tenure oversaw Nigeria’s national teams, domestic competitions and various football development programmes.
Sanusi, meanwhile, had served as NFF General Secretary since 2014 and played a central role in the federation’s daily administration and international engagements.
With the NFF’s top leadership stepping down only weeks before the election, all attention now turns to the NFF Congress and its decision on the next phase of the federation’s leadership.
The unprecedented development could significantly reshape the immediate future of Nigerian football ahead of the forthcoming election.
