NFF congratulates Samson Adamu on confirmation as CAF General Secretary

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has congratulated Mr Samson Adamu following his confirmation on Thursday as the substantive General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The appointment makes Adamu the first Nigerian to serve as the Chief Operating Officer of Africa’s football governing body in its 70-year history.

Adamu joined the Cairo-based organisation as Director of Competitions before being appointed Director of Tournaments and Events.

Reacting to his confirmation, NFF Acting General Secretary, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme MON, described the development as good news for Nigerian football and expressed confidence in Adamu’s ability to excel in the role.

“This is, indeed, very good news. I am so happy for Samson Adamu on his confirmation and I know he is going to make Nigeria and Africa proud. He is a highly-knowledgeable individual who has never stopped improving himself, and he is well-rounded in the business of football administration.

“The NFF is delighted and very pleased with this appointment, and we will give him all the necessary support as a Member Association under CAF. We wish him tremendous success in the job,” Ikpeme said.

Adamu was appointed CAF Acting General Secretary on Sunday, March 29, following the resignation of Swiss-Congolese official Veron Mosengo-Omba.

His confirmation as substantive General Secretary marks a significant milestone in his football administration career and represents a historic achievement for Nigeria within the continental governing body.
