NSC inaugurates four Federation boards, sets agenda for accountability
The National Sports Commission (NSC) has inaugurated the boards of four national sports federations, charging their members to uphold accountability, demonstrate diligence and prioritise the development of Nigerian sports.
The inauguration ceremony, held in Abuja on Thursday, October 15, 2026, marks the beginning of a new administrative phase for the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Nigeria Arm Wrestling Federation, Nigeria Padel Federation and Nigeria Fencing Federation.
The newly inaugurated boards are expected to strengthen governance, improve athlete development and position their respective sports for greater success at national and international competitions.
Speaking at the ceremony, NSC Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, described the appointments as a call to national service, urging the new board members to approach their responsibilities with dedication, transparency and a clear commitment to delivering results.
“These appointments come with a responsibility to serve diligently, uphold the highest standards of accountability and put the interests of our athletes and Nigerian sports first,” Olopade said.
He further challenged the boards to work collectively, establish clear priorities and pursue measurable progress, stressing that effective sports administration remains crucial to talent identification, athlete development and Nigeria's competitiveness on the global stage.
He added that the Commission expects the new leadership to build stronger federations capable of nurturing emerging talents and creating opportunities for sporting excellence.
At the Nigeria Basketball Federation, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi was inaugurated as president, with Rita Mosindi serving as Secretary-General. Engr. Samuel Olatunji Jackson emerged as president of the Nigeria Arm Wrestling Federation, with Ms. Dorathy Okpo Benard as Secretary-General. Rt. Hon. Jimi Benson will lead the Nigeria Padel Federation, alongside Israel Inwang as Secretary-General, while Mr. Adeyinka Samuel was inaugurated as president of the Nigeria Fencing Federation, with Javan Bernard serving as Secretary-General.
