NWFL Premiership: Edo Queens book Super Six ticket as FC Robo tighten grip in Group B

Matchday 15 of the NWFL Premiership delivered tension, late drama, and defining results, as Edo Queens secured their place in the Super Six while FC Robo Queens strengthened their command at the top of Group B.

In Benin City, Edo Queens rose to the occasion with a composed 2-0 victory over Naija Ratels to confirm their qualification from Group A. Esther Inyang set the tone before Atume Doosuur continuing her fine scoring form struck her 11th goal of the season to seal the win, as Edo joined Bayelsa Queens and Rivers Angels in the championship race.

Over in Lagos, FC Robo Queens once again showed their title credentials, leaving it late to dispatch Abia Angels 2-0 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena. Rodiat Yusuf finally broke the resistance in the 86th minute before Opeyemi Ajakaye wrapped it up deep into stoppage time, extending Robo’s lead at the summit of Group B to six points.

The battle for survival took centre stage in Ile-Ogbo, where Osun Babes edged Nasarawa Amazons 1-0 to secure back-to-back wins. Sharon Shomuyiwa’s first-half strike proved decisive as the hosts continue to claw their way out of danger with renewed belief.

In Ikenne, Remo Stars Ladies kept themselves firmly in the Super Six conversation after a 1-1 draw with Sunshine Queens. Victory Lucky fired Sunshine ahead in the first half, but Kadijat Anifowoshe responded quickly after the break to earn Remo a crucial point, one that lifted them back into qualification position following Abia Angels’ slip.

Delta Queens, meanwhile, left it late in Asaba to secure a hard-fought 2-1 win over Ahudiyannem Queens. Olaitan Oladiti opened the scoring before Mary Lucky restored parity, but Chika Idika’s late intervention handed Delta all three points and inflicted a first defeat on Ahudiyannem under coach Adanna Nwaneri.

Dannaz Ladies also kept their momentum alive with a narrow 1-0 victory over Confluence Queens in Iyahmo, courtesy of Fatimoh Solaty’s decisive second-half finish.

Elsewhere, the highly anticipated South-South derby between Rivers Angels and Bayelsa Queens in Port Harcourt ended in a cagey 0-0 stalemate. With both sides already through to the Super Six, the result changes little at the top of Group A, where they remain level on points.

Ekiti Queens boosted their campaign with a confident 2-0 home win over Pacesetter Queens in Ado-Ekiti. Goals from Joke Adeyemi and a composed penalty by Winifred Eyebhoria ensured a comfortable outing for the hosts.

However, the clash between Ibom Angels and Heartland Queens in Uyo was cut short, suspended in the 55th minute due to heavy rainfall and poor visibility, with the scoreline still goalless. The match will resume from the point of interruption.
