Nigeria's Francis Orbih elected into Badminton World Federation Council

Francis Orbih has been appointed as a member of the Badminton World Federation Council.

The President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), Francis Orbih, has successfully secured a position on the council of the Badminton World Federation (BWF).

This election occurred during the BWF Annual General Meeting on Saturday, April 26, in Xiamen, China, where Orbih triumphed over prominent candidates from various African nations.

He will serve alongside Cameroon’s Odette Assembe Engoulou, while Chipo Zumburani from Zimbabwe and Hadia ElSaid from Egypt were not elected.

An overjoyed Orbih conveyed his appreciation to badminton presidents worldwide for their confidence and support. He remarked, “I am profoundly honored by the trust bestowed upon me by my colleagues in the badminton community. I anticipate providing exemplary representation, advancing development initiatives, and enhancing badminton’s global presence over the next four years.”

Orbih also recognized the backing of the Federal Government of Nigeria, especially the National Sports Commission (NSC), which he credited for its crucial role in his successful election campaign.

“The Chairman and the Director General of the NSC closely observed the entire process. I am thankful for their engagement and optimistic that Nigeria will reap the benefits of this achievement,” he expressed.

Additionally, he extended his gratitude to the BFN board members and the Nigerian badminton community for their prayers and unwavering faith in his leadership.

“Since I announced my intentions, the BFN board members have been incredibly supportive, and I assure them that I will not let them down,” Orbih concluded.
