Nigeria targets World Cup qualification revival under David Fizdal
Former NBA head coach David Fizdale is expected to lead Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, during the July window of the 2027 FIBA World Cup African qualifiers.
The anticipated arrival of Fizdale is regarded as a significant boost for the Nigerian side as they continue their campaign for a place in the next phase of the qualifiers after enduring a difficult previous round in which the team recorded two defeats.
Nigeria will compete in Group C alongside Tunisia, Rwanda and Guinea in the qualification series.
Fizdale, who recently took over as handler of D’Tigers, is expected to bring his wealth of experience and tactical discipline to the team as Nigeria seeks to revive its qualification hopes during the crucial July fixtures.
The former NBA bench boss is widely expected to provide stability and renewed confidence for the Nigerian squad as they aim to improve their standing in the race for a place at the 2027 FIBA World Cup.
