Aisha Falode praises Female Football Initiative at Nigeria Future Leaders Festival
Nigeria Football Federation board member Aisha Falode has commended the organisers of the Nigeria Future Leaders Festival, tagged “An Exclusive Female Football Competition,” for empowering the next generation of leaders through sports.
The one-day female football tournament was held on Thursday morning at the FIFA Legacy Pitch and featured four private schools. The competition was organised by sports enthusiast Folasade Falokun in conjunction with the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA).
The participating schools included Greenspring Schools, Chrisland Schools, Supreme Education Foundation and Wellspring College.
Greenspring Schools emerged champions after defeating Supreme Education Foundation 2-0 in the final, while Chrisland Schools secured third place with a 2-0 penalty shootout victory over Wellspring College following a goalless draw in regulation time.
Speaking after the tournament, Falode expressed satisfaction with the quality of football displayed by the young players and praised the organisers for creating a platform to support female football development.
“I must commend the organisers of this initiative. This competition inspires young female football talents and promotes gender equality,” Falode said.
“From what I saw in this competition, the future of female football is bright in our country. Let me use this medium to urge school owners and governments at all levels to create an enabling environment for our children to exhibit their skills at a tender age.”
She also stressed the importance of improving sports infrastructure to support the growth of female football both in schools and at grassroots level.
Vice Chairman of the Lagos State Football Association, Dotun Coker, also expressed satisfaction with the performances of the participating schools and agreed that inadequate sports facilities remain a major challenge affecting school sports development in the state.
Meanwhile, tournament convener Folasade Falokun thanked the sponsors, Lagos State Sports Commission and the Lagos State Football Association for their technical, financial and moral support toward the success of the event.
Falokun explained that the aim of the competition was to promote gender equality and provide young girls with a platform to showcase their football talents through the game.
