Nigeria has been officially named the host nation for the second edition of the African Schools Games, scheduled for 2027. The announcement was made yesterday in Algiers, following a highly competitive bidding process that saw Nigeria emerge ahead of strong contenders such as South Africa and Kenya.

The country’s successful bid was bolstered by its impressive track record in hosting major sporting events, including the National Sports Festival and the 3rd CAA Africa U18/U20 Athletics Championships, both of which were widely praised for their organization and execution.

Leading Nigeria’s bid delegation were Bukola Olopade, Director General of the Nigeria Sports Commission (NSC), and Habu Gumel, President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC).
