OFFICIAL: Super Falcons get new Media Manager
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed Brenda Shima as the new Media Manager of the Super Falcons, Savid News can authoritatively report.
Shima’s appointment comes following the departure of Mary Akinsola from the media management position, confirming an exclusive development earlier reported by SavidNews when the federation was expected to name a successor ahead of the Falcons’ next international assignment.
The appointment takes immediate effect for the seasoned broadcaster with TVC and member of FCT chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria based in Abuja.
The new Media Manager is expected to assume responsibility for the day-to-day media operations of the senior women’s national team, including coordination with journalists, production of official content and communication of team activities to supporters and the wider football community.
Shima brings considerable experience in sports journalism and broadcasting to the role, with a career that has been particularly associated with coverage of women’s sports and women’s football.
She began her sports media journey with Ray Power FM in Abuja before teaming up with Africa Independent Television (AIT), where she became part of the team behind Kakaki, one of the network’s prominent current affairs and breakfast programmes, under the DAAR Communications Network.
Her years in broadcasting have seen her develop a strong reputation for reporting and presenting sports, with women’s football among the areas where she has built considerable experience and visibility.
Shima’s background in telling the stories of female athletes and teams is expected to provide an important dimension to her new responsibility with the Super Falcons, one of Nigeria’s most prominent sporting brands.
She recently joined the TVC family, where she has continued her career as a sports reporter and presenter, further strengthening her experience in television journalism and sports broadcasting.
Her transition from frontline sports reporting and presentation into the national-team media management role represents another step in a career built around sports communication and storytelling.
Shima assumes the role at an important point for the Super Falcons, with the team preparing for their 2028 Olympic Games qualifying campaign against Comoros.
The Falcons are scheduled to play both legs of their second-round Olympic qualifying tie at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo, with the first leg set for October 9 and the return fixture on October 13.
The NFF has appointed Augustine Eguavoen as interim head coach for the Olympic qualifying assignment, with Christopher Danjuma, Ayisat Yusuf and Olatunji Baruwa also part of the technical set-up.
Shima will therefore begin her tenure with the Falcons as the team enters a new phase under an interim technical structure and prepares for a crucial Olympic qualification campaign.
Her immediate task will include ensuring effective communication between the team, the media and supporters while strengthening the visibility and storytelling around the Super Falcons.
With her background across radio and television and her established interest in women’s sports, Shima is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the media operations of the 10-time African champions.
