Ogenyi Onazi signs for Baltic side FK Babrungas

Former Nigerian international midfielder Ogenyi Onazi has continued his football journey in Europe after completing a move to Lithuanian second division club FK Babrungas, where he will wear the number 23 jersey.

The 31 year old, who earned recognition for his energetic performances with the Nigeria national football team, is returning to familiar territory in Lithuania following an earlier spell with top flight side FK Žalgiris.

His experience in the Baltic nation is expected to help him settle quickly as he looks to add leadership and stability to Babrungas’ midfield.

Onazi rose to prominence during his time with SS Lazio in Italy’s Serie A, where he spent several seasons and gained valuable European experience.

He was also part of Nigeria’s squad at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and played a key role in the country’s triumph at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

Over the years, the midfielder has featured for clubs across Europe and the Middle East, including stints in Turkey and Denmark, as he sought to revive his career after injury setbacks that slowed his progress following his peak years with Lazio and the Super Eagles.

His arrival at Babrungas is seen as a major boost for the ambitious Lithuanian club, which hopes the Nigerian’s experience at the highest level of international and European football will inspire younger players and strengthen the team’s push for improved results in the league.
