World Relays 2026: Nigeria Secure More Beijing 2027 Qualification Spots in Botswana

Team Nigeria delivered an impressive performance at the World Athletics Relays 2026, securing additional qualification spots for the World Championships in Beijing, China.

Competing in Gaborone, the Nigerian contingent added two more tickets on the final day to boost their qualification tally.

Mixed 4×400m Team Shines

Nigeria’s Mixed 4×400m quartet of Samson Nathaniel, Taiwo Kudoro, Chidi Okezie, and Patience Okon-George produced a standout performance.

The team clocked a Season’s Best of 3:12.88 to finish second, earning automatic qualification for the global championships.

Women’s 4×100m Team Bounce Back

Nigeria secured another qualification in the women’s 4×100m event through the quartet of Chigozie Rosemary, Obi Jennifer Chukwuka, Maria Thompson, and Miracle Ezechukwu.

The team finished second with a time of 42.94 seconds in the repechage heat, securing qualification after narrowly missing out on the opening day due to a baton exchange error. France claimed first place in the race.

Men’s 4×400m Miss Out

However, Nigeria fell short in the men’s 4×400m repechage, finishing third with a time of 3:01.43, missing out on qualification.

Overall Performance

In total, Team Nigeria secured three out of a possible six qualification spots at the championships, having earlier qualified in the Mixed 4×400m and women’s 4×100m events.

The performance highlights Nigeria’s growing strength in relay events as preparations continue for the World Championships in Beijing.
