Oshiomhole: If Atiku Couldn’t Build PDP, He Can’t Fix Nigeria
Senator Adams Oshiomhole, former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has said former Vice President Atiku Abubakar lacks the capacity to govern Nigeria, arguing that his inability to stabilise the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) undermines his claims of being able to fix the country.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Oshiomhole criticised Atiku’s political record, stating that despite his long-standing influence within the PDP, he failed to provide the leadership needed to keep the party cohesive.
“If Atiku, as a former vice president under the PDP, could not fix the PDP or provide leadership using the influence he had built, how can he lay claim to fixing Nigeria?” Oshiomhole said.
His comments followed Atiku’s announcement on X earlier on Monday confirming his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a coalition-backed party he is expected to work with ahead of the 2027 general elections. The former vice president posted a photo of himself holding his ADC membership card with the caption, “It’s official.”
Reacting to Atiku’s move, Oshiomhole also recalled his earlier exit from the APC, alleging that Atiku left the ruling party after failing to secure its presidential ticket.
“He was once a member of the APC. He left because he lost the party’s presidential ticket,” Oshiomhole said. “He went back to the PDP for the purpose of contesting elections. He could not build the PDP. So, if Atiku can’t build the PDP that made him vice president, he can’t fix Nigeria.”
Atiku resigned from the PDP in July following prolonged internal crises, culminating in his shift to the ADC
