Osimhen, Iheanacho set Turkish league alight with goals
Nigerian forwards Victor Osimhen and Kelechi Iheanacho have made impressive starts to the new Turkish season, with both Nigerian strikers currently leading the goal-scoring charts in their respective divisions.
Osimhen continued his prolific form in the Trendyol Süper Lig, scoring his sixth goal of the campaign as Galatasaray edged İstanbul Başakşehir 3–2 away from home after four matches.
The Nigerian striker's latest effort further underlined his importance to Galatasaray, although his outing was cut short after he suffered an injury during the encounter.
According to Turkish outlet Odatv, Osimhen sustained the injury after stretching his leg excessively while in action. The movement reportedly triggered muscle pain, leaving the forward unable to continue the match.
Meanwhile, Iheanacho has been equally impressive in the Trendyol Birinci Lig, enjoying a remarkable start to life in the second tier.
After five matches, the experienced Nigerian forward has already scored six goals and provided two assists, putting him at the summit of the division's scoring charts.
The strong performances of both forwards will come as welcome news to Nigeria, with Osimhen and Iheanacho demonstrating their goalscoring pedigree at the highest levels of Turkish football.
However, attention will now turn to the extent of Osimhen's injury and how long the Galatasaray star could be sidelined.
