'Treat Osimhen like a precious gem' - Besiktas legend warns Galatasaray
Former Besiktas midfielder Sinan Engin has urged Galatasaray to handle Victor Osimhen with the utmost care, describing the Nigerian striker as a “precious gem” following his explosive start to the season.
Osimhen has been in sensational form for the Turkish champions, registering six goals and two assists in just four appearances, quickly establishing himself as one of Galatasaray’s most influential players.
However, the club’s preparations for their UEFA Champions League meeting with Sporting CP have been clouded by concern over the striker’s fitness.
The Nigeria international was forced off during the first half of Galatasaray’s thrilling 3–2 victory over Basaksehir on Friday after reportedly experiencing discomfort in his groin and requesting to be substituted.
While the full extent of the injury remains unknown, initial indications point to a suspected groin problem. Osimhen is expected to undergo an MRI scan to determine the severity of the injury ahead of Galatasaray’s trip to Portugal on Wednesday.
Speaking on the Asist Analiz YouTube channel, Engin stressed the importance of protecting the prolific forward, warning that Galatasaray’s attacking effectiveness could suffer significantly in his absence.
“Galatasaray without Osimhen is like a car running on gas,” Engin said, using a car analogy to emphasise the striker’s importance to the team.
“He is like a brand new car with a gas conversion kit installed for fuel economy. You would ask the driver: ‘You bought this car, and you are already thinking about the cost of gas?’
“It is the same thing. His performance will suffer. Galatasaray have to treat Osimhen like a precious gem.”
With a crucial Champions League fixture against Sporting CP approaching, Galatasaray will be hoping the MRI results provide positive news and that their star forward can make a swift return to action.
