President Bola Tinubu backs Nigeria's bid to host CAF Ordinary General Assembly

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved and backed Nigeria’s bid to host the 48th Ordinary General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football scheduled to take place in October this year.

The President gave his backing during the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, following a high-level meeting with CAF President Patrice Motsepe.

Present at the meeting were Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, President of the Nigeria Football Federation Ibrahim Musa Gusau, Special Adviser to the CAF President Amaju Melvin Pinnick, and CAF Acting General Secretary Samson Adamu.

The CAF Ordinary General Assembly is one of African football’s most important gatherings, bringing together presidents of CAF’s 54 Member Associations, representatives of the six zonal unions and senior football administrators from across the continent.

Nigeria’s bid to host the prestigious football congress is expected to further strengthen the country’s position as a leading destination for major sporting events in Africa while also opening opportunities for sports diplomacy, tourism, investment and football development.

The backing by President Tinubu is also seen as a major boost to Nigeria’s chances of securing the hosting rights, reflecting the Federal Government’s commitment to sports development and international engagement through football.

The October assembly is expected to deliberate on key football development issues, governance reforms and strategic plans aimed at advancing African football.
