President Tinubu approves final six-month extension for Customs CG Adewale Adeniyi
President Bola Tinubu has approved a final six-month tenure extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, pushing his service tenure to February 2027.
Adeniyi’s initial extension was expected to expire on August 1, 2026, before the presidency granted the additional period to allow for the consolidation of key reforms, particularly the implementation of the National Single Window initiative and to ensure a smooth and orderly leadership transition within the service.
During the extended period, Adeniyi, in collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Board, is expected to oversee the promotion of eligible officers to the rank of Comptroller of Customs.
He will also supervise the mandatory retirement of officers who have either reached 60 years of age or completed 35 years in service, in line with public service regulations.
Adeniyi’s career in the Customs Service began after his graduation from Obafemi Awolowo University in the late 1980s.
He steadily rose through the ranks, becoming Deputy Comptroller in 2012, Comptroller in 2017, and Assistant Comptroller-General in 2020.
He later served as Acting Deputy Comptroller-General in January 2023 before his appointment as Comptroller-General by President Tinubu in June 2023.
