Rasheedat Ajibade receives 2024 Queens of the Pitch award
Nigeria’s senior women’s national team captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, has been named the 2024 Queen of the Pitch at the prestigious Nigeria Pitch Awards, capping off what she described as a “remarkable and inspiring year.”
In an emotional acceptance speech, Ajibade expressed gratitude to God, her teammates, and supporters across Nigeria and Africa, dedicating the honour to every young girl inspired by the growth of women’s football.
“First and foremost, I give all glory to Almighty God for this incredible honour. 2024 has truly been a remarkable year — one filled with challenges, growth, and unforgettable moments that have shaped me both on and off the pitch,” she said.
“This award means so much, not just to me, but to every young girl who dares to dream, to every teammate who’s fought beside me, and to every Nigerian and African who continues to believe in women’s football.”
Ajibade, who has continued to play a pivotal role for the Super Falcons and her club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), highlighted the collective effort behind her success.
“Football has given me a platform to inspire and be inspired, and I stand here tonight as a product of hard work, faith, and the collective strength of my country and teammates,” she added.
She dedicated the award to her Super Falcons sisters, her clubs past and present, and everyone who has supported her journey — coaches, fans, and the media.
“To the next generation of girls watching, keep believing, keep working, your dreams are valid,” she urged. “Thank you to every media person who voted for me, thank you Nigeria, and thank you to the Nigeria Pitch Awards. This one is for us all.”
Ajibade led the Super Falcons to their record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco and also helped her former club, Atlético Madrid Femenino, qualify for the UEFA Women’s Champions League before joining PSG.
She moved to PSG after WAFCON 2024 joining compatriot Jennifer Echegini at the club.
