Osimhen strikes brace as Galatasaray crush Erzurumspor
Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen continued his blistering start to the Turkish Süper Lig season on Friday, scoring twice and providing an assist as Galatasaray cruised to a commanding 4-0 away victory over Erzurumspor F.K.
The 27 year old Super Eagles player delivered another outstanding individual performance, contributing directly to three of Galatasaray’s four goals as the defending champions strengthened their impressive start to the campaign.
Galatasaray survived an intense opening spell from their hosts before taking control of the encounter. Roland Sallai opened the scoring before Osimhen turned provider in the 20th minute, breaking into space and delivering a perfectly weighted pass for Yunus Akgün to make it 2-0.
Osimhen then got on the scoresheet just before half time after capitalising on a defensive error. A poor back-pass put goalkeeper Matija Orbanić under pressure, allowing the Nigerian forward to pounce and roll the ball into an empty net for Galatasaray’s third goal.
The prolific striker completed his brace in the 79th minute, displaying his trademark predatory instincts to stab home a cross and seal a comprehensive 4-0 triumph for the Turkish champions.
The performance means Osimhen has now opened his Süper Lig campaign with back to back braces, having also scored twice in Galatasaray’s opening-day victory over Çorum FK.
He currently leads the early Golden Boot race with four goals and one assist from just two league appearances, underlining his remarkable form in front of goal.
Osimhen will have another opportunity to extend his scoring run on Friday, August 29, when Galatasaray welcome Göztepe S.K. in their third league fixture of the season.
