IGP Deploys CP Abayomi Shogunle to Lead Election Security in Anambra
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, has deployed CP Abayomi Shogunle, PhD, fsi, as the Commissioner of Police for the Anambra State Governorship Election, scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Anambra State Police Command announced that CP Shogunle has assumed duty, taking charge of all security operations ahead of the crucial poll. His posting forms part of the IGP’s operational strategy to ensure a peaceful, credible, and transparent election.
CP Shogunle has activated the anti-electoral offences enforcement protocol, vowing zero tolerance for vote-buying, ballot snatching, political thuggery, and voter intimidation.
He also unveiled a central command framework for real-time intelligence sharing and coordination of over 60,000 security personnel under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES).
The CP reiterated the ban on vigilante and quasi-security groups, and prohibited VIP escorts at polling and collation centres.
