Salisu Yusuf reveals why he parted ways with Coton FC
Shooting Stars head coach Salisu Yusuf has explained the circumstances surrounding his departure from Benin Republic club Coton FC, insisting that both parties agreed to end their working relationship amicably.
The experienced Nigerian tactician revealed that he initially signed a two-year contract with the club but eventually left by mutual consent, stressing that his exit was not caused by any disagreement with the management.
“Yes, it’s true that I had an initial two-year contract with Coton FC. But I left them by mutual agreement,” Yusuf said.
The former Super Eagles coach explained that he enjoyed a cordial relationship with the club’s hierarchy and worked in a conducive environment throughout his time with the Benin Republic side.
According to Yusuf, his departure followed a decision reached by both parties rather than any dispute or breakdown in their relationship.
Coton FC is owned by Lionel Talon, the eldest son of former Benin Republic President Patrice Talon.
Yusuf further disclosed that the club’s ownership decided against sustaining the team at a high-profile level following Patrice Talon’s departure from office in May 2026.
The development prompted discussions between the coach and the club, eventually resulting in an agreement to bring their partnership to an end.
“So, at that point, we decided and we agreed to part ways,” he added.
Yusuf has since taken charge of Shooting Stars, where he is expected to deploy his wealth of experience and tactical expertise as the Ibadan-based club continues its campaign in the Nigerian domestic league.
