Singida Black Stars reinstate Amas Obasogie after match fixing allegations

Singida Black Stars S.C. have officially cleared Nigerian goalkeeper Amas Obasogie of match fixing allegations following an internal investigation conducted by the club’s disciplinary authorities.

The Tanzanian outfit confirmed the development in a statement released on Friday and signed by the club’s Chief Executive Officer, Jonathan Kassano.

Concerns had earlier been raised by fans, stakeholders and club officials after a series of costly errors involving the goalkeeper in recent matches. The incidents occurred during Singida’s CAF Confederation Cup encounter against Flambeau du Centre as well as domestic league games against Pamba Jiji F.C. and Namungo F.C. in the NBC Premier League.

Following the concerns, the club’s management, through its Disciplinary Committee, launched a preliminary probe into the matter to determine whether the mistakes were linked to any form of match manipulation.

However, after reviewing match footage, assessing the goalkeeper’s explanations and receiving clarification from the club’s General Manager, the investigation concluded that there was no evidence connecting the Nigerian shot-stopper to match fixing.

“The incidents that raised concerns have been determined to be technical errors within the game,” the club stated.

Although cleared of wrongdoing, Obasogie reportedly expressed regret over the mistakes that sparked the controversy and assured the club of his commitment to improve his performances in order to regain the trust of fans and stakeholders.

In light of the findings, Singida Black Stars also reversed their earlier disciplinary action against the player. The club had initially handed the goalkeeper a three-month suspension when the allegations surfaced.

Management has now lifted the sanction and confirmed that Obasogie has been fully reinstated to the squad and is free to resume his duties with the team.

The decision comes as a major relief for the former Bendel Insurance F.C. goalkeeper, whose reputation came under intense scrutiny when the allegations first emerged within the football community.
