U-23 Eagles to face Grassrunner FC in preparatory friendly ahead of DR Congo clash

Nigeria's U-23 national team, the Olympic Eagles, will continue their preparations for the 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers against the Democratic Republic of Congo with a friendly encounter against Nigeria National League (NNL) side Grassrunners FC.

The encounter, scheduled for Friday, November 6, 2026, at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, will provide another opportunity for the coaching crew to assess the players ahead of the crucial Olympic qualifying campaign. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.

The friendly forms part of the team's build-up programme as the Olympic Eagles intensify preparations for their two-legged qualifying contest against DR Congo.

With the stakes high, the technical crew will be looking to use the exercise to evaluate the players' fitness levels, tactical understanding and overall readiness for competitive action.

The meeting with Grassrunners FC is also expected to provide the invited home-based players with another opportunity to demonstrate their abilities and strengthen their claims for places in the squad for the qualifiers.

Facing an NNL opponent will offer the Olympic Eagles a competitive test, particularly as the coaching staff seeks to build a cohesive unit capable of delivering positive results against their Congolese counterparts.

The friendly will be another important step in Nigeria's quest to secure qualification for the 2028 Olympic football tournament in Los Angeles, United States.
