Uchenna Kanu seals return to Mexico with Cruz Azul
Super Falcons forward Uchenna Kanu has completed a move to Cruz Azul Femenil, joining the Liga MX side on a free transfer after bringing her spell with Racing Louisville FC to an end.
The 28-year-old makes a return to familiar territory, having previously impressed in Mexico with Tigres UANL, where she won the Liga MX Femenil title and built a reputation as one of the league’s most powerful and efficient attackers. Her prior success in the Mexican top flight played a major role in Cruz Azul’s decision to move for the Nigerian forward, as the club looks to tap into her experience and winning mentality.
Kanu joined Racing Louisville in February 2023 from Tigres and went on to spend three seasons in the NWSL. Despite enduring spells on the sidelines through injury, she remained an influential figure when fit, contributing key goals and performances.
She was also part of Racing Louisville’s landmark 2025 campaign, which saw the club qualify for the NWSL Play-offs for the first time in their history, although a knee injury curtailed her involvement during the closing stages of the season.
On the international stage, Kanu remains one of the standout names in Nigerian women’s football. She represented the Super Falcons at the 2019 and 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cups, scoring a crucial goal against co-hosts Australia at the latter tournament. She also featured at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and played a key role in Nigeria’s run to the semi-finals of the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Now back in Liga MX Femenil, Kanu opens a new chapter with Cruz Azul, bringing continental experience, international pedigree, and a proven goalscoring touch. For La Máquina, her arrival signals clear ambition and provides a timely boost ahead of the new campaign.
