WAFU-B Women's Champions League: Ampem Darkoa beat Edo Queens in dramatic replay to reclaim title
Ghanaian side Ampem Darkoa have defeated Nigeria’s Edo Queens 3-2 after extra time in the replay of the 2026 WAFU-B Women’s Champions League final to emerge champions of the regional competition.
A decisive goal in the 92nd minute by Mohammed Afishata secured victory for Ampem Darkoa, earning the Ghanaian side their second appearance at the CAF Women’s Champions League following their maiden participation in 2023 in Côte d’Ivoire.
The result reverses the outcome of the original final, which Edo Queens won on penalties after a 2-2 draw in regulation time without extra time being played.
Ampem Darkoa subsequently appealed the result, and the decision was upheld by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), leading to the replay of the final.
The Ghanaian side took advantage of the opportunity to overcome the Nigerian champions and secure the WAFU-B title, booking their place as the region’s representatives at the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League in Egypt.
Ampem Darkoa will compete in Group B alongside Moroccan side AS FAR, Uganda’s Kawempe Muslim Ladies and USFAS Bamako of Mali.
The 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League is scheduled to take place in Egypt from November 1 to 15, with Ampem Darkoa aiming to make an impact on their return to the continental stage.
