Wikki Tourist halt Shooting Stars unbeaten run as Plateau, Warri Wolves shine
Wikki Tourists of Bauchi brought Shooting Stars’ five-match unbeaten run to an abrupt end with a 2–0 victory in their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match-day 10 clash on Sunday.
First-half goals from Abdullahi Usman and Jonathan Mairiga sealed the win for the home side at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Wikki’s first victory in seven games and lifted spirits among the Bauchi faithful.
In Enugu, Rangers and Kwara United played out a goalless draw, as the visitors extended their impressive form under new head coach Ashifat Suleiman. Meanwhile, in Owerri, Kennedy Boboye’s debut as Bendel Insurance boss ended in a 1–1 stalemate against Kun Khalifat.
At the Ozoro Stadium, Warri Wolves returned to winning ways with a 2–0 triumph over Bayelsa United, thanks to a brace from Igbunu Evwierhurhoma that propelled the Seasiders back into the top four. In Umuahia, Abia Warriors also recorded a 2–0 win over Barau FC, courtesy of goals from Emeka Obioma and Sunday Megwo.
In Jos, Monday Gideon’s brilliant brace inspired Plateau United to a 2–1 comeback win over Enyimba. The winger put the hosts ahead early in the second half before Jonathan Jacob equalized for the visitors. However, Gideon’s header from Kazeem Adeyanju’s corner 15 minutes from time sealed the victory for the Peace Boys.
Earlier in the weekend, Katsina United edged Elkanemi Warriors 1–0 on Friday, while Niger Tornadoes stunned Kano Pillars 2–0 in Katsina on Saturday.
