Wilfred Ndidi completes Eagles camp as Eric Chelle finalizes squad for friendlies
The Super Eagles’ camp in Antalya, Turkey is now at full capacity following the arrival of captain Wilfred Ndidi, who was the final expected player to link up with the squad ahead of upcoming international friendlies.
Ndidi’s arrival on Wednesday sealed preparations for Head Coach Eric Chelle, whose side immediately held their first full training session with all 22 available players in attendance.
However, the team will proceed without defender Calvin Bassey, who has been ruled out of the fixtures due to injury, forcing Chelle to adjust his defensive plans.
Attention now turns to Friday’s clash against Iran national football team, a fixture with limited history between both nations.
Nigeria secured a narrow win in their first meeting at the 1998 Carlsberg Cup in Hong Kong, thanks to a decisive goal from Ahmed Garba, while their last encounter ended in a goalless draw at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Chelle’s squad blends experience with emerging talent. Key figures such as Alex Iwobi and Moses Simon bring leadership and consistency, alongside established names like Samuel Chukwueze, Paul Onuachu and goalkeeper Francis Uzoho.
The squad also features in-form stars including Ademola Lookman, Frank Onyeka and Raphael Onyedika, while new faces such as Emmanuel Fernandez, Philip Otele and Collins Yira Sor will be eager to make their mark.
Nigeria will take on Iran on Friday at 4pm local time (2pm Nigeria time), before facing Jordan national football team on March 31, as Chelle continues to assess his squad ahead of future competitive engagements.
