Zamalek Outlast Al Ahly in Thriller to Lift Third Straight African Volleyball Trophy

Zamalek Sporting Club of Egypt has once again underlined its dominance in African women's volleyball, successfully defending its title at the 2025 African Women's Volleyball Inter-Club Championship on Sunday.
The Cairo-based powerhouse overcame arch-rivals Al Ahly in a pulsating final, sealing a 3-1 (29-27, 22-25, 25-20, 25-22) victory to retain the coveted crown.
The high-octane encounter, played in Abuja, lived up to expectations, with both Egyptian giants showcasing elite-level volleyball.
Zamalek edged a fiercely contested opening set 29-27, displaying resilience and tactical discipline in the face of Al Ahly’s aggressive play.
Although Al Ahly clawed back in the second set to level the game at 1-1, Zamalek regrouped and took control in the third and fourth sets with clinical execution, solid blocks, and powerful spikes that kept their rivals on the back foot.
Zamalek’s triumph marks a historic hat-trick of titles, having also emerged champions in 2023 and 2024.
Their latest victory confirms their status as the undisputed queens of African club volleyball, with three consecutive championship wins, stressing their relentless form and consistency.
Earlier on Sunday, the bronze medal match saw Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) deliver a commanding performance to clinch third place.
The Kenyan side overpowered Tunisia’s CF Carthage in straight sets—28-26, 25-14, 25-18—during Match 55 of the tournament.
With their 3-0 win, KPC secured the bronze medal in the 39th edition of the Women’s African Volleyball Club Championship, drawing praise for their consistency and determination throughout the competition.
