24 states confirm participation as Senate President U-18 Unity Cup holds October 25

Preparations have been concluded for the third edition of the 10th Senate President U-18 Unity Cup, with 24 states already confirming their participation ahead of the competition scheduled to kick off on October 25, 2026, in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The Main and Local Organising Committees have perfected arrangements for the tournament, which is expected to feature emerging football talents in both male and female categories.

Chairman of the Main Organising Committee and President of the Grassroot Sports Federation of Nigeria, John Ekpenyong, disclosed that 24 states had picked participation forms, with expectations that more states could join before the competition begins.

“We have confirmed 24 states and we expect more before the start of the competition on October 25. However, we had interests from teams outside Nigeria who wanted to participate, but allowing them will be contrary to the aims of the tournament. In future, we might need to adjust and create opportunities for such teams,” Ekpenyong said.

He expressed confidence that the competition would provide a platform for young Nigerian footballers to showcase their abilities while promoting unity through sports.

“We're counting down. It's just six days to go before the much-anticipated third edition kicks off in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, on October 25, 2026,” he added.

Ekpenyong noted that the tournament would bring together young footballers from across the country, offering opportunities for talent discovery, competitive football and the development of the next generation of Nigerian stars.

“With young football talents from 24 states expected to participate in both male and female categories, the tournament promises exciting football, national unity, talent discovery, and opportunities for the next generation of Nigerian stars,” he stated.

The organisers have restricted participation to Nigerian teams in line with the tournament’s objectives, although Ekpenyong indicated that opportunities could be considered for foreign teams in future editions.

With preparations completed and the opening date approaching, attention will now turn to Ikot Ekpene as teams from across the country prepare to compete for honours in the third edition of the Senate President U-18 Unity Cup.
