Abdu Maikaba invites 35 players for WAFU-B U-20 preparations
Newly appointed Flying Eagles head coach Abdu Maikaba has officially begun preparations for the 2026 WAFU B U20 Championship after naming a 35-man squad to camp in Abuja.
Maikaba, who recently took charge of Nigeria’s U20 national team, is set to oversee the rebuilding of the Flying Eagles ahead of the regional tournament scheduled for July.
The former Wikki Tourists tactician will be assisted by Ortega Deniran as first assistant coach Abdullahi Biffo as second assistant, while Usman Mohammed takes charge of the goalkeepers.
Among the standout names invited to camp are Sporting Lagos goalkeeper Clinton Lawani, highly-rated forward Seun Akanji, midfield prospect Victor Samuel, and attacker Alex Leme.
The squad features a blend of home-based talents and overseas-based youngsters, with players drawn from clubs in Nigeria, Croatia, Spain, Ukraine, and the Czech Republic.
In total, Maikaba selected three goalkeepers, 10 defenders, 11 midfielders, and 11 forwards, as he begins the search for a formidable squad capable of restoring Nigeria’s dominance at youth level.
All invited players are expected to report to camp in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on Saturday, May 16, with full preparations set to commence immediately.
