Nigeria’s Super Eagles will depart for Guinea-Bissau via chartered flight, Valuejet, on Sunday as preparations intensify for their second Group L fixture of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

The three-time African champions are scheduled to hold their final training session in Nigeria at 10am on Sunday before leaving for Guinea-Bissau on a 3pm flight. 

The departure comes less than 48 hours after Nigeria opened their qualifying campaign with a 2-1 comeback victory over Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

The Super Eagles fell behind to an early goal from the Barea before restoring parity and completing the comeback through Moses Usor, who scored the winning goal.

The victory handed Éric Chelle’s side their first three points of the qualifying campaign and provided an important boost ahead of Tuesday’s encounter with Guinea-Bissau. 

The players undertook a recovery session on Saturday evening before returning to the pitch for their final Nigerian training session on Sunday morning.

Chelle will have limited time to prepare his squad for the second fixture, with the short turnaround requiring careful management of the players following the physical demands of the Madagascar encounter. 

Guinea-Bissau will enter the contest with confidence after defeating Tanzania 2-0 in their opening Group L fixture on Friday.

The result moved the Djurtus to the top of the group on goal difference, leaving Nigeria second ahead of their meeting in Bissau.

The group has an unusual qualification dynamic because Tanzania are one of the co-hosts of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations and already have an automatic place at the finals. Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau and Madagascar are therefore competing for the remaining qualifying place from Group L. 

For the Super Eagles, the trip represents an opportunity to build on their opening victory and strengthen their position in the qualification race.

Chelle will be hoping his players can maintain the momentum from the Madagascar comeback while producing a more controlled performance against a Guinea-Bissau side that will have home advantage.

The Group L clash is scheduled for Tuesday, September 29, with Nigeria seeking another positive result to consolidate their AFCON 2027 qualification campaign.
