Super Falcons touch down in Yaounde for Cameroon friendlies

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade is among the early arrivals as the Super Falcons begin to assemble in Yaoundé for a pair of international friendly matches against Cameroon’s senior women’s national team.

Seventeen players are already settled at the team’s Hilton Hotel base in the Cameroonian capital ahead of the two encounters, scheduled for Saturday, February 28, and Tuesday, March 3, at the Military Stadium, Yaoundé.

Both fixtures form part of final preparations for the 14th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), set to hold in Morocco from March 17 to April 3, 2026, as Nigeria and Cameroon fine-tune tactics, fitness and squad cohesion.

Defending champions and 10-time winners, Nigeria will compete in Group C at the continental showpiece, where they face Zambia, Egypt, and tournament debutants Malawi. The Super Falcons will open their campaign against Malawi on March 18 in Casablanca.

Cameroon, runners-up at the 2016 edition, have been drawn in Group D alongside Ghana, Mali, and debutants Cape Verde, with their first match also slated for March 18, against Mali in Fes.

Among those already in camp is Canada-based playmaker Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene, returning to the national fold. She is joined by goalkeepers Comfort Erhabor and Fatima Oloko; defenders Glory Ogbonna, Oluwatosin Demehin, Shukurat Oladipo and Kafayat Shittu; midfielders Christy Ucheibe, Esther Onyenezide, Precious Christopher and Jennifer Echegini; and forwards Gift Monday, Joy Omewa, Favour Nkwocha, Folashade Ijamilusi and Rinsola Babajide.

The reigning African champions held their first training session on Wednesday at the Stade Omnisport Ahmadu Ahidjo Annex and are scheduled to move to the main stadium on Thursday evening. The venue holds fond memories for Nigeria, having hosted their 1–0 victory over the Indomitable Lionesses in the final of the 2016 Women’s AFCON.

Israel-based defender Sikiratu Isah is expected to join the squad before Thursday’s training session, while goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defenders Osinachi Ohale and Michelle Alozie, and forward Chinwendu Ihezuo are due to arrive later in the day.

Further reinforcements are anticipated on Friday, with Mexico-based wing-back Chidinma Okeke and midfielder Halimatu Ayinde set to complete the squad in Yaoundé as preparations gather momentum.
