CAF announces increased prize money for CHAN 2024
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a major prize money boost for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), increasing the winner’s purse from $2 million to $3.5 million.
The runner-up will now take home $1.2 million, while the third and fourth-placed teams will receive $700,000 and $600,000, respectively. Each of the four quarter-finalists eliminated at that stage will earn $450,000.
Group stage participants are also set for rewards. Teams finishing third in their groups will receive $300,000, and even those finishing bottom will walk away with $200,000.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe highlighted the significance of the increase, stating
“We are excited about the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda 2024 and have significantly increased the prize money for the winners to USD 3.5 million which is an increase of 75% . We have also increased the total prize money of the CHAN 2024 to USD 10.4 million, which is a 32% increase overall.
“The CHAN is an important competition for the development and growth of Africa-based football players and will contribute significantly to the global competitiveness of African football and CAF competitions. This competition is part of our strategy of investing in African football and making it more appealing to fans, broadcasters, sponsors, and partners across the world.”
The 2024 CHAN is scheduled to take place from 2 to 30 August 2025 across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
