Nigeria’s Oluebube Umejiaku has expressed her delight after scoring a goal in the Flamingos’ 3-1 victory over Korea DPR in their final group match at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

Umejiaku found the net as Nigeria secured victory to finish their group-stage campaign on a positive note, crediting hard work, discipline and adherence to the coach’s instructions for the team’s performance.

Speaking after the match, the Nigerian youngster admitted she was excited to score, revealing that she had prayed for the opportunity after being named in the starting lineup.

“I feel very happy. It is not easy. It is training, hard work and following the coach’s instructions. That’s just it,” she said.

“They have their game plan, and we equally have ours. It is just God and our coach’s instructions. I am very excited.

“I didn’t expect the goal. I prayed for it, that I was starting today. I have not started before and wished I could score, and I scored.

“By God’s grace, we are going to win more games. Thank you so much. I really love my teammates.”
