Falconets fly past Senegal to set up final World Cup Qualifiers clash against Malawi

Nigeria’s U20 women’s team, the Falconets, took another confident step toward the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup after sealing a 2-1 victory over Senegal in Saturday’s second-leg qualifier to book a place in the final round.

Having secured a narrow 1-0 win in the first leg at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta, the Falconets completed the job away from home to progress 3-1 on aggregate, underlining their pedigree on the continental stage.

Nigeria struck early through Chinaza Kindness, who continued her fine form by opening the scoring in the 19th minute. The forward, scorer of the decisive goal in the first leg, once again proved the difference as the Falconets tightened their grip on the tie, going into the break with a commanding two-goal aggregate advantage.

The visitors made their dominance count in the second half when Precious Oscar doubled Nigeria’s lead in the 69th minute, effectively putting the contest beyond Senegal’s reach. Although the hosts managed a late response, it was little more than a consolation, as Moses Aduku’s side showed maturity and composure to see out the game.

With Senegal dispatched, the Falconets now turn their attention to Malawi, whom they will face in the fourth and final round of qualifiers in May. The tie will determine one of Africa’s four coveted tickets to the global showpiece.

The 12th edition of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup will take place in Poland from September 5 to 27, 2026, with the European nation hosting the tournament for the first time. A total of 24 teams from six confederations will battle for the crown.
