Falconets to know 2026 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup opponents on Friday
Head Coach Moses Aduku and Team Administrator Kelechi Omeke will represent Nigeria at the draw ceremony for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup scheduled for Friday, May 15, in Łódź, Poland.
The ceremony will take place at the EC1 Cultural Centre as participating nations discover their group-stage opponents ahead of the tournament billed for September 5–27 across Bielsko-Biała, Katowice, Łódź and Sosnowiec.
Nigeria sealed qualification for the global showpiece alongside Benin Republic, Ghana, and Tanzania to complete Africa’s four representatives for the expanded 24-team competition.
Ahead of the draw, FIFA has placed the qualified teams into four pots of six teams each, with the groups set to be unveiled during Friday’s ceremony.
Hosts Poland headline Pot 1 alongside heavyweights Japan, Spain, North Korea, Brazil and France, while Nigeria are seeded in Pot 2 with the United States, Colombia, Mexico, Canada and New Zealand.
Pot 3 consists of South Korea, England, Ghana, Argentina, China and Italy, while Pot 4 includes Portugal, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Benin Republic, Tanzania and New Caledonia.
The Falconets remain one of the most consistent sides in the history of the competition, having featured in every edition since the tournament began. Nigeria also carry an impressive pedigree into this year’s event after finishing runners-up in 2010 and 2014.
This edition will also introduce six debutants, Poland, Portugal, Ecuador, Tanzania, Benin Republic, and New Caledonia, adding fresh excitement and new narratives to the tournament.
In contrast, former champions Germany will be absent for the first time ever after failing to qualify, marking a major shift in the competition’s landscape.
With the countdown now underway, Nigeria will be hoping for a favourable draw as the Falconets continue their quest for a first-ever FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup title.
