The Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) has officially announced that the 2025 National Under-12 and Under-15 Handball Championship will take place in Umuahia, Abia State, from March 18 to 28.
According to a statement signed by HFN Secretary-General Almu Umar Lambu, the tournament will feature male and female teams from across the country, competing for national honors. The event will begin with team arrivals on March 18, followed by a screening exercise on March 19. The competition will run from March 20 to 27, with teams departing on March 28.
Participating teams are required to pay a registration fee of ₦20,000, while each player and official will pay ₦2,000 and ₦3,000, respectively. In addition, states must pay an annual affiliation fee of ₦20,000. A thorough screening process will be conducted to ensure age compliance, with sanctions for any violations.
HFN has emphasized that only players who pass the screening will be eligible to participate. Each team is allowed a maximum delegation of 22 members, including 18 players and four officials. The winners and runners-up in both categories will earn the opportunity to represent Nigeria in international youth tournaments.
The federation has also placed restrictions on jersey advertisements, requiring a fee of ₦100,000 for any team wishing to display sponsorship logos. Teams are advised to bring a registered sports doctor or physiotherapist for health and safety measures.
The tournament is expected to provide a platform for young handball talents to showcase their skills, with HFN calling for full cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure a successful event.
