Futsal AFCON 2026 semifinal Previews: Morocco face Egypt, Angola clash with Algeria

Hosts and defending champions Morocco will face record three-time winners Egypt in a blockbuster semi-final of the 2026 TotalEnergies CAF Futsal Africa Cup of Nations on Monday, while Angola take on tournament debutants Algeria for a place in the final.

The two semi-finals will be played at the Moulay Abdellah Sports Arena in Rabat, with Angola and Algeria meeting at 5pm local time before Morocco and Egypt clash at 8pm.

Morocco head into the last four in commanding form after winning all three of their Group A matches without conceding a goal.

The Atlas Lions scored 17 goals in victories over Algeria, Zambia and Libya, reinforcing their status as leading contenders for a fourth continental title.

Coach Hicham Dguig’s side will now face a more experienced Egyptian team determined to recover from its setback in the final round of Group B matches.

Egypt booked their semi-final place after recording victories over Tanzania and Mozambique, despite suffering a 4-2 defeat to Angola in their final group fixture.

The result ended Egypt’s perfect run in the competition but did not prevent the Pharaohs from progressing to the knockout stage.

Egypt will be aiming to reclaim the continental crown and extend their record of three previous titles, having won the competition in 1996, 2000 and 2004.

The opening semi-final will see Angola face Algeria in a contest between an established continental side and one of the tournament’s most exciting newcomers.

Angola qualified after producing a remarkable comeback against Egypt, overturning a two-goal deficit to secure a 4-2 victory in their final Group B match.

Egypt had taken control through Ibrahim Sayed’s early brace, but Angola responded through João Cambangula, Magno Felipe Gomes, another effort from Cambangula and Anderson Fortes to complete the turnaround.

The victory secured Angola’s place in the semi-finals and provided a significant confidence boost ahead of their meeting with Algeria.

Algeria, meanwhile, have made an encouraging impression on their first appearance at the Futsal Africa Cup of Nations.

After losing to Morocco and drawing with Libya, the North Africans secured qualification for the last four with a thrilling 7-4 victory over Zambia in their final Group A encounter.

Their progress has added an intriguing dimension to the semi-finals, with Algeria seeking to extend their impressive debut campaign by eliminating Angola and reaching the final.

The two winners will advance to Wednesday’s final, scheduled for 8pm local time, while the losing teams will contest the third-place match at 5pm.

With Morocco chasing another title on home soil, Egypt seeking to restore their continental dominance, Angola building on their dramatic group-stage finish and Algeria pursuing a historic debut triumph, Monday’s fixtures promise two compelling battles for a place in the final.
