Nigeria’s U15 boys’ team, the Future Eagles, and their officials arrived in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, on Thursday afternoon ahead of the inaugural FIFA U15 World Cup and Festival, scheduled to take place from October 22 to 31.

The Nigerian contingent comprises 14 players and six officials, including Head Coach Patrick Bassey and Team Administrator Nasiru Jibril.

The team departed Abuja on Wednesday night aboard a Turkish Airlines flight to Istanbul before connecting to Baku for the tournament.

Nigeria have been drawn in Group AD, alongside South Sudan, Jordan, The Gambia, Cyprus and Pakistan.

The Future Eagles will begin their campaign against South Sudan on Saturday before facing Jordan and The Gambia on Sunday. They will conclude their group-stage fixtures against Cyprus and Pakistan on Monday.

The inaugural competition will adopt an eight-a-side format, with matches consisting of two 20-minute halves.

Performances in the group stage will determine the tier in which each participating country will compete during the second phase, scheduled for October 28 and 29. The tier finals will take place on Friday, October 30.

Head Coach Bassey will be hoping his young squad makes a strong impression in the historic tournament as Nigeria seeks to develop its next generation of football talents.
