Gateway Games: NSC DG praises Ogun State's preparedness for 22nd National Sports Festival

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has expressed its approval of Ogun State's readiness for the upcoming 22nd National Sports Festival, known as the Gateway Games 2024, scheduled to take place from May 16 to 30, 2025.

Hon. Bukola Olopade, the Director General of the NSC and Chairman of the Main Organising Committee (MOC), made these comments during a facility inspection conducted with members of both the Local and Main Organising Committees.

"This inspection is crucial not only for its visual appeal but also because we have been addressing technical challenges related to Athletics, particularly the throwing events. We have reached an agreement with the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) to hold the throwing events at the MKO Stadium, thanks to the quality of the Astroturf installed there. This is, for me, the most rewarding aspect of this inspection," he stated.

"We must extend our gratitude to Governor Dapo Abiodun, CON, for the ongoing improvements to all facilities. Now, all athletics events will be hosted at the MKO Stadium. Additionally, the Governor has significantly enhanced security measures, with every Public Address System equipped with a camera. The entire stadium is monitored by state-of-the-art cameras that provide real-time footage of activities," he added.

The Director General also led his team to evaluate other venues, including the Abeokuta Golf Course, where he reaffirmed the commission's commitment to supplying essential equipment that will serve as a legacy for the community.

"I hope that as we support these initiatives, the positive impact will also reach the underprivileged children living near this golf course," he remarked.

All facilities designated for the Games are currently undergoing renovations, with many nearing completion.
