Governor Sule rewards President Federation Cup champions, Nasarawa Amazons
Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, on Friday, July 24, 2026, hosted the victorious Nasarawa Amazons FC at the Government House in Lafia following their triumph in the 2026 President Federation Cup, announcing generous cash rewards, dollar incentives, and the donation of a brand-new 32-seater bus to the club.
The colorful reception brought together the club's chairperson, management, technical crew, players, support staff, supporters, and top government officials to celebrate the Amazons' successful return to the summit of women's football in Nigeria.
Speaking during the event, the Chairperson of Nasarawa Amazons FC, Hajiya Husaina Sulieman Nagogo, expressed appreciation to Governor Sule for his unwavering commitment to the club and the development of women's football in the state.
She thanked the governor for his patience, encouragement, and consistent support, noting that his belief in the team inspired them to bounce back stronger after losing the Federation Cup final in Lagos last year.
"We faced challenges after losing the final in Lagos, but Your Excellency encouraged us to continue working because success was on the horizon. Today, that encouragement has become a reality," she said.
Nagogo also appealed to the governor to provide a permanent training camp for the team and an official vehicle for the Head Coach to improve the club's operations.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu Boha, commended Governor Sule for his sustained investment in sports, noting that the Amazons had won the same competition in 2019 during the early years of the administration and had now reclaimed the title as the administration nears its conclusion.
In his remarks, Governor Sule reaffirmed his administration's commitment to gender equality and sports development, emphasizing that women remain a priority under his leadership.
"In my administration, I do not treat women as second-class citizens. We are all equal. I am aware of the challenges the team faces regarding accommodation, and by God's grace, we will do our best to address them," the governor said.
To reward the team's outstanding achievement, Governor Sule announced a series of financial incentives. The tournament's Most Valuable Player, Ayatsea Hembafan Roseline, and Best Goalkeeper, Unachukwu Udoka, received $1,000 each, while every other player in the squad was awarded $500.
The governor further approved:
₦25 million for the players.
₦15 million for the management and coaching crew a group photo session, underscoring the Nasarawa State Government's continued commitment to promoting women's football and celebrating.
₦5 million for the Nasarawa Amazons Supporters Club.
A brand-new 32-seater bus for Nasarawa Amazons FC.
Governor Sule also extended support to other football stakeholders by approving:
₦10 million for the Nasarawa State Football Association.
₦10 million and a new bus for Nasarawa United Football Club.
On behalf of the players, team captain Nwoha Confidence thanked the governor for his fatherly support and unwavering belief in the team.
"Your Excellency, thank you for everything you have done for us. Your love, encouragement, and support have inspired us to achieve this success. You are more than a father to us at Nasarawa Amazons. We sincerely appreciate you and pray that God continues to bless and strengthen you," she said.
The reception ended with jubilant celebrations, the presentation of the President Federation Cup trophy, and a group photo session, underscoring the Nasarawa State Government's continued commitment to promoting women's football and celebrating sporting excellence.
