Historic convergence of karate masters mark Lagos State All Styles Workshop 2026

Lagos State recently witnessed a landmark event in the martial arts community as the 1st Lagos State All Styles Karate Masters Workshop 2026 concluded successfully over two transformative days, beginning April 18, 2026. The groundbreaking workshop attracted over 133 registered participants, uniting Masters, instructors, and practitioners from diverse karate styles in a rare forum for knowledge exchange, technical development, and community-building.

Conceived as a strategic initiative to standardize training, foster cross-style collaboration, and enhance the technical capacity of karate practitioners across Lagos State, the workshop underscores a growing commitment to positioning karate not merely as a sport, but as a powerful tool for youth development, character building, and positive social impact.

The program commenced with intellectually stimulating sessions led by Dr. Jack Mbom and Sir Dr. Kyoshi Brasca Ifeadi, who delivered thought-provoking lectures highlighting not only the technical aspects of karate but also its philosophical foundations, discipline, leadership principles, mental resilience, and its evolving role in modern society. Participants gained valuable insights into athlete development, officiating standards, and the critical responsibility of Masters in mentoring future generations.

Day two transitioned into intensive practical sessions, offering participants the rare opportunity to train directly with some of Nigeria and Africa’s most respected karate Masters. Among those present were Dr. Jack Mbom, Hanshi G.O. Goby China, Shihan Mavie Emechete-Attoh, Sir Dr. Kyoshi Brasca Ifeadi, Shihan Alfred Ohimain, Hanshi Lucky Ebunu, and Shihan Ayodeji Oluwafemi Idowu.

Supporting the Masters were senior practitioners including Shihan Wilson Okon, Kyoshi Paschal Mac-Brown, Shihan Kingsley Onuelu, and Shihan Biyi Ismail, who ensured the smooth coordination of sessions across various styles, providing an enriching experience for all attendees.

A particularly remarkable aspect of the workshop was its intergenerational inclusivity, bringing together both young and experienced karatekas. This fostered mentorship, inspiration, and a shared commitment to growth within the community. Young participants, in particular, benefited from direct access to high-level guidance, an experience poised to shape their technical mastery and confidence for years to come.

Beyond techniques and titles, the workshop emerged as a symbol of unity, collaboration, and progress for karate in Lagos State and Nigeria. It created a space where knowledge was freely shared, standards elevated, and meaningful connections forged across styles and generations.

With the success of this maiden edition, Lagos State Karate has reinforced its position as a leading hub for karate development in Nigeria, setting a standard for similar initiatives nationwide. The workshop was made possible through the support of key stakeholders committed to advancing and standardizing karate within the state.

Plans are already underway to establish the Masters Workshop as an annual event, with ambitions to expand participation and foster broader international collaboration in future editions.

The 1st Lagos State All Styles Karate Masters Workshop 2026 has set a new benchmark, igniting a new era of excellence, unity, and purposeful growth in Nigerian karate. More than an event, it marks the beginning of a lasting legacy.
