INEC Launches Election Project Plan Committee to Oversee 2027 General Election Preparations

In a significant move to ensure the smooth execution of the upcoming 2027 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially launched the Election Project Plan Committee (EPPC). The committee’s formation marks a crucial step in the Commission's early-stage preparations for the elections.

The committee convened for its inaugural meeting this week in Abuja, with Prof. Rhoda H. Gumus appointed as its chairperson. The EPPC is tasked with crafting a detailed and strategic roadmap to guarantee a seamless electoral process across the nation.

Among its key responsibilities, the committee will review the Terms of Reference, develop a comprehensive work plan, establish necessary sub-committees, design an Election Project Plan (EPP) Template, and set deadlines for the submission of essential planning documents.

In attendance at the launch were several high-ranking National Commissioners, including:

  • Kenneth Ukeagu – Chair, Tenders Board (Committee Member)
  • Dr. Baba Bila – Chair, EOLC (Committee Member)
  • Sam Olumekun – Chair, EPMC (Committee Member)
  • Prof. Abdullahi Abdu Zuru – Chair, BEI (Committee Member)

During her address, Prof. Gumus underscored the critical role of early-stage planning in fortifying the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process. She called on the committee members to approach their responsibilities with the utmost dedication, emphasising the importance of upholding transparency and credibility in the electoral system as the country looks toward the 2027 elections.
