Indomitable Lionesses unveils 26-player squad for WAFCON 2026

The head coach of the Valentine Nguele has announced a 26-player squad for the 16th edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), scheduled to take place in Morocco from July 25 to August 16, 2026. Despite recent instability around the team, the technical staff has remained consistent in its approach, finalizing the roster after a thorough selection process conducted at the stadium.

The final squad reflects a balanced structure as Cameroon prepares for the tournament. The coaching team has selected three goalkeepers: Cathy Biya, Ange Bawou, and Bihina. In addition, the squad includes nine defenders, seven midfielders, and seven forwards, blending experienced players with emerging talent.

Veteran figures such as Aboudi Onguene and Ngo Mbeleck remain part of the setup, as the coaching staff continues to rely on their leadership to guide younger members of the squad.

However, the list notably excludes key players Nchout Njoya Ajara and Falone Meffometou, both of whom left the training camp for undisclosed reasons.

The announcement comes as Cameroon’s women’s national team, the Indomitable Lionesses, looks to rebuild and make an impact at the continental tournament. Initially eliminated by Algeria in the qualifiers, the team was later reinstated following the expansion of the competition.

Drawn in Group D alongside Ghana, Mali, and Cape Verde, the Lionesses will now aim to prove their readiness on the continental stage under a refreshed setup and renewed ambitions.
